Srinagar: On Monday, a terrorist who had recently joined proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen surrendered during an encounter in Awantipora’s Noorpora in Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorist has been identified as Saqib Akbar Waza. He is a resident of Gulshanpura, Pulwama, and was pursuing B.Tech in Punjab’s Patiala.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told that one militant was killed in intial exchange of firing, while the second militant who was trapped inside the encounter site agreed to surrender after hectic persuasion by the police and army. Its pertinent to mention that two newly recruited Al-Badr militants also surrendered before security forces in Sopore last week.
Earlier a joint team of Police and army’s 42RR launched a cordon and search operation in Noorpora. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering this gunfight.
