The incident took place at around 7.45 pm when terrorists opened fire at Bhupinder Singh who died on the spot.
However, he was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased Identified as Bhupinder Singh was block development chairperson of block Khag in Budgam. According to preliminary inputs, Singh was assigned two personal security officers (PSOs) from District Police Line Budgam. On Wednesday, he dropped off the PSOs at the Khag police station and headed towards his residence in Srinagar’s Aloochibagh, but Bhupinder Singh instead changed his route and started heading towards his ancestral home in Dalwash village without informing the J&K Police. This is when militants opened fire at Singh who succumbed to bullet wounds on the spot.
Very sorry to hear about the assassination of BDC councillor Bhupinder Singh. Mainstream grass root political workers are easy targets for militants & unfortunately in recent years the threat to them has only increased. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.
